Going Hourly…

So sometime last year there was the lawsuit against Activision for unpaid overtime. EA had a similar lawsuit before ATVI and that resulted in overtime pay along with their benefit cuts. So today I get called in into Treyarch’s HR with one of the producers and I’m told that starting next week, I’m going to be on hourly pay. HOURLY. Activision calculated that the average work week with their studios was 45 hours per week, so my hourly pay is my annual salary divided by 52 weeks divided by 45 hours. Not 40 hours, but 45 hours. This magical number means that my overtime pay several things. One, in order to recieve overtime, I need to work 45 hours a week before I start gaining OT pay. Two, since my hourly wages are calculated on the 45 hours, I’ll be receiving less OT pay than the norm because my hourly wages are calculated lower. Three, I will no longer be eligible for comp time. Four, I HAVE TO FREAKIN’ CLOCK IN AND OUT! That part annoys me. I don’t like clocking in and out. It feels like big brother, always breathing down my neck. Not to mention I find that having comp time is much better than getting overtime pay. Why? Because I can stack my normal vacation on top of comp time for a nice and long vacation. Long vacation doing nothing. Bumming around at home. Playing too much FFXI. But whatevers. I have no choice. Bleh.
